Rabindranath Tagore’s signed book ‘The King of the Dark Chamber‘ has been sold for 700 US Dollars at auction in United States. The book is English translated version of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s Bengali play ‘Raja’. The book signed by Tagore on a prefatory page using fountain pen. It was published in 1916 by The Macmillan Company. Book’s initial price was set US $500.
The King of the Dark Chamber play is about a mysterious, unseen, omniscient king, who is both benevolent and efficient.
Rabindranath Tagore
Rabindranath Tagore was poet, philosopher, musician, writer, educator. He was the first Indian to win Nobel Prize in Literature which he got in 1913. He was awarded it for his famous book ‘Gitanjali’. Tagore primarily was a Bengali writer but his books became so famous that those were also translated into English by him.
Tagore was given Knighthood awards in 1915 by British Government but he returned it after Jallianwala Bagh massacre happened in 1919 in which many innocent people were killed by ruling British government.
