Bajrang Punia Wins Gold at Asian Games
Wrestler Bajrang Punia won gold first gold medal for India at Asian games 2018 in Jakarta. Punia defeated Japan’s Daichi Takatani with a margin of 11-8 in the final match. This is the second medal won by Bajrang Punia at Asian Games. Earlier he had won silver medal in 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. He won the medal in the free style 65 Kg category.
Bajran Punia before leaving for Asian games 2018 had promised to his Guru, Yogeshwar Dutt that he will return to Indian with a gold medal around his neck. The 24 years old young guy from Haryana’s Jhajjar village did not break his promise made to his teacher. Now the next goal of Punia is to win a gold medal at world championship.
Speaking about this historic win, Punia said that he wants to move in steps. His next goal is to win gold at world Championship. After world Championship he will prepare for his next goal that is Olympics games in 2020 in Tokyo. If he will continue in this way, he will definitely win the gold at Olympics games also.
This was the fourth consecutive gold medal won by the champion wrestler and first in Asian games. Earlier he had won three gold medals in Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast, Tbilisi Grand Prix in Georgia and Yasar Dogu International in Istanbul. Punia started the wrestling at the age of seven year. He is from Jhajjar village of Haryana. The state is also called the land of players. Each year many new players emerges from the state.
Another hope of India was two times Olympics medallist Sushil Kumar. But the player could not perform well. He losses in the first-round to Adam Batirov of Bahrain.
