After running a pilot project in February for two months, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has decided to make Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) country’s first Aadhaar-enabled airport by the ebd of 2018 in December. This initiative is in line with aim to make smart airports.
As per the BIAL, it will use the Aadhaar-enabled entry and bio-metric e-boarding process to make the entry of passengers inside the airport as well as to get better control over other things. With this new system the screening process of the passengers will really be fast. Right now on an average, screening process takes up to 25 minutes but with Aadhaar-enabled entry, it will be completed within 10 minutes. So more passengers will be able to enter from a single gate.
This new system of entry using bio-metric readers will also help in improving security, will speed up clearance and alleviate delays at the airport. The passenger will not have to show their ID and boarding passes at multiple stages. Passengers passage from various touch-points will be more smooth and stress free.
As per the reports BIAL has set a target of 325-days to implement this new technology. The project is expected to be live by March 30, 2018 and in another three months, all domestic airlines will be roped to make phase-2 live. International airline flights will be made enable to use this system by October 4, 2018. The whole project will be completed by the end of 2018 that is on 31, December,2018.
