Himachal Pradesh became the first state of India to introduce electrical bus service in the country. The service of electric bus was flagged off on Thursday for Rohtang Pass, a famous tourist destination near Manali by Transport Minister of Himachal Pradesh G S Bali.
This new initiative will boost the green transport in the state and will surely motivate other states to also implement such kind of green transportation. Earlier National Green Tribunal (NGT) had directed the state government to put restrictions on number of petrol and diesel vehicles entering in the area so as to reduce the pollution caused in the area.
As the bus service is launched a few days before the famous festival Dushehra, so it will also benefit tourists as they will not have to struggle to get permit for their vehicles to enter into the city.
The electric bus service will be operated by HRTC and initially 10 busses will be started in Kullu and more routes will be added in future.
Foundation stone of Rs. 30 Crore modern bus stand at Kullu was also laid by the minister.
