India and world Bank signed $200 million loan agreement for boosting agribusiness in Assam and Rural Transformation Project. The project will help Assam government to
- Facilitate agri-business investments
- increase in production in agriculture
- market access
The project will also make small farm holders of Assam to be able to produce crops that are resilient to recurrent floods or droughts in the state. Economic Affairs Department joint Secretary Sameer Kumar Khare said that $200 million loan agreement between India and World Bank will give strength to farming system and thus agriculture productivity will also be increased in the state.
joint Secretary also said that Private sector investments will be increased to promote agri-enterprises that will generate quality job opportunities for the youth in the Assam.
More than 16 districts of Assam will be covered where the project will be implemented and more than 500,000 farming households will be directly benefited through India, World Bank Project.
Women will be given importance under the project and more women-led enterprises will be focused and participation of women in the decision-making process will be increased at farmer producer organizations.
