Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Philippines. Four agreements have been signed between India-Philippines in areas of defence, agriculture, small and medium enterprises and tie-up between think-tanks.
The signing of agreements was done after a bilateral talk between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte in Manila. Prime Minister is in Manila to attend ASEAN and related summits that are underway in Philippines capital.
Under the defence agreement private and public enterprises will cooperate in the defence sector, including on the off-shore patrolling vessels. It was first bilateral visit by Indian PM to Philippines in 36 years after visit of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1981. Al though

Two Indian rice seed varieties to gene bank of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Philippines were contributed by PM Modi. The Institute is working towards eliminating global poverty and hunger by improving cultivation of key grain.
PM also interacted with several Indian scientists who are working at IRRI in Los Banos, an urban locality around 65 km from Manila. He also Inaugurated a rice laboratory named after his name as Narendra Modi Resilient Rice Field Laboratory.
