India has jumped from 99th place to 26th for this year in its ranking of ease of getting business index. It is a remarkable improvement. Total ten parameters were taken into consideration while ranking the countries. Ease of getting electricity was major reason of India’s good ranking. Some other parameters were: number of procedures involved, time taken for connection, cost of getting a commercial connection up to 140 KVA) and reliability of power supply.
Following initiatives has helped India to improve ranking:
Amendments in the CEA (Central Electricity Authority) for installing of transformers on strong double pole structures.
Removing the electric inspector approval for installation of 11KV by distribution companies.
Facility of Online application for new connection without any physical documents.
Reducing number of steps required for new connection.
