Kerala government is known for taking progressive initiatives for transgender community and those initiatives were taken one step further with the decision to open transgender-exclusive clinics at all government medical colleges in the state. With this Kerala will become the first state of the country to open clinics exclusively for transgenders.
Along with that state government will also provide surgery facilities for transgenders at least in two medical colleges. Government medical college of Kottayam will be the first medical college of the state where transgender-exclusive clinic will be opened with sex change facilities.
This really is a great step by Kerala state government because transgender community today face many difficulties along with harassment when they go for medical help in general clinics.
