Largest Iceberg of World Breaks off from Antarctica
As per European Space Agency (ESA), world’s largest iceberg has broken off Antarctica. The image is taken by the agency through satellite. It is named as A-67 which is very big in size around 4320 square kilometres. The iceberg is large enough equal to half size of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. As per satellite images, the iceberg looks like a finger. It got separate from Ronne Ice shelf. Ronne Ice Shelf is very bigger about 400,000 sq. km.
Braking such a big iceberg is of serious concern. But, because the ice shelf that this berg calved from was already floating on water, the event won’t directly impact sea levels.
What is an Iceberg?
An Iceberg is the bigger piece of ice. It is separated from glaciers. These icebergs are very dangerous for ships and boats because they are difficult to locate. These are generally white in color. Icebergs float over ocean and lakes water because their density is lower than salt water. They are made of fresh water.
