Earlier this record was held by former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu. Jyoti Basu remain uninterrupted CM for 23 years. Pawan Chamling is also founding president of the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF).

Pawan Chamling Political Journey So Far
Born in 22 September 1950 at Yangang in south Sikkim, Pawan Chamling became chief minister for first time in 1994. He is a matriculate. He came into politics at a very young age of 22 years. Just after three years, Pawan became block president of the Youth Congress. He was also elected secretary of the Prajatantra Congress in 1978. Then he was chosen as Yangang gram panchayat president without any objections. Then in 1993 he formed Sikkim Democratic Front Party.
