The Maharashtra government to put focus on climate resilience is going to set up committees in more than 5,000 villages of 15 districts in the state.
Village Climate Resilient Agriculture Management Committees (VCRMCs) will be set up which will be cost Rs 4,000 crore as per a Government Resolution under the Nanaji Deshmukh Krushi Sanjivanee Project. The World Bank will provide funding for the project.
There are 4,210 villages that are most vulnerable to climate change in the state and all these villages have been selected under the project. Along with that 932 villages of the state are facing challenge of salinity of water and are also included in the project.
A committee of thirteen members will be set to take care and to ensure proper implementation of the project in all selected villages. The 13-member committee will also put stress on adopting new agricultural practices, careful use of water for saving and soil testing to keep a close eye on its health.
The project recommends use of seed technology, precision farming along with diversification of agriculture to coarse grains. Most of the selected villages comes under the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions and Nashik revenue division.
