Indian boxing legend M.C. Mary Kom (48kg) once again made India feel proud as she won Gold medal at Asian Women’s Boxing Championships. This is her overall sixth medal at Asian Women’s Boxing Championships and is fifth gold medal grabbed by the champion at this boxing event.
Mary Kom won the final by defeating North Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi in a unanimous 5-0 verdict to add another accolade to her already crowded cabinet. This is the first gold medal won by Mary Kom since 2014 Asian games and the first one this year. With this she has proved that there is still so much boxing spirit inside her.
On the other hand another finalist Sonia Lather has to satisfy with silver as she lost her final battle in Featherweight category against Chinese opponent Yin Junhua.
It has been a wonderful overall campaign for the Indian contingent as seven Indian boxers will return home with medals including one gold, one silver and five bronzes.
