Union Ministry Constituted Task Force to Fasten Namami Gange Programme
The Union Ministry of water resources, River development and Ganga Rejuvenation constituted a task force with an aim to speed up all ongoing Namami Gange Programme.
The members of the special task force will be ministers and officials from
- Water resources
- Urban development
- Drinking water and sanitation Departments
- Rural development and from others concerned departments
About Namami Gange Programme:
Namami Gange programme was launched in May, 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is a Union Government’s project that has aim to protect and clean river Ganga in a systematic way.

Nirmala Sitharaman Become first Independent Woman Defence minster of India
Nirmala Sitharaman has become first full time independent woman defence minister of India. The announcement was made on 3rd September, 2017 when PM Modi reshuffled and extended his Union Cabinet.
Although she is the second woman to take charge of defence ministery. In past former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had also handled the defence ministry but she was handling it as an additional charge, not for full time.
Key Points:
The post of defence minister was vacant after the Manohar Parikar had resigned from the post to go to Goa to elect in Goa Chief Minister Elections. From that time the post was vacant and finance minister Arun Jaitley was was handling the department as additional charge.
Before being promoted as Defence Minister Nirmala was handling Commerce and Industries department since May 26 2014. This department will now be handled by Suresh Prabhu who exits as Railway Minister.
About Nirmala Sitharaman:
Nirmala Sitharaman was born in Madurai, Tamilnadu State. She holds B.A degree from Seethalakshmi Ramaswamy College, Tiruchirappalli and also is M.A in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University. She is founding member of Pranava School located in Hyderabad.
Nirmala joined the BJP in 2006 and since then she has been an important part of the party and gained so much popularity. She was enlisted as member of the six party spokespersons in March 2010 when Nitin Gadkari was president of BJP. Then she gained lot of popularity as party’s spokesperson during Modi’s tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister.
She played a very important role in Indian general election of 2014 and successfully represented Narendra Modi as future Prime Minister of India.
She was nominated by BJP among 12 candidates on 29 May 2016 for Rajya Sabha elections which were to be held on 11 June 2016 and contested from Karnataka successfully.

Narendra Modi Cabinet reshuffles and Extended, Nine new Ministers included in Union Cabinet as Ministers of State
Modi government reshuffled and extended the cabinet on 3rd September, 2017. This is the third time that the cabinet has been extended or reshuffled by the current government. Earlier it was done two times on November 9, 2014 and then on July 5, 2016. In the latest change, nine new ministers of state were added to Union Cabinet of Ministers and four state ministers were promoted to cabinet rank by Modi.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Dharmendra Pradhan, Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman were promoted to Cabinet Rank. The details are explained below:
Nirmala Sitharaman
Promotion of Nirmala Sitharaman is very much in the news because of some reasons. She has been promoted to defence ministry and has been made Defence minister of India. Her promotion is getting very much attention because she is the first full time women defence minister of India. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi has also handled the defence ministry for two times but she was holding it as additional charge. Earlier this defence ministry was under Arun Jaitley but now he will only work as finance minister of India. However the upcoming international meeting of Defense Ministers in Japan will be attended by Arun Jaitley.
Before being promoted as Defence Minister Nirmala was handling Commerce and Industries department. This department will now be handled by Suresh Prabhu who exits as Railway Minister.
Piyush Goyal
Piyush Goyal who is coal minister and will also handle the Railways as Railway Minister because Suresh Prabhu quit as railway minister.
Dharmendra Pradhan
Dharmendra Pradhan has now become cabinet minister and will be a minister for skill development and entrepreneurship. Dharmendra will also continue to have charge of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Earlier Rajiv Pratap Rudy was Skill development and entrepreneurship minister but Rudy gave up two days ago.
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi
There is no change for Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, he will continue as Minority Affairs Minister in his departments as a Cabinet minister.
