In a move to reduce the inequality between community and transgenders, Andhra Pradesh state cabinet has approved pension for transgenders in the state. As per the transgenders pension scheme, Rs. 1500 will be provided as pension to transgenders with more than 18 years of age.
As per the state cabinet, there are 26,000 eligible transgenders in the state to whom AP state government will provide pension. Below are the other facilities that will be provided under this scheme to transgenders:
- Ration cards
- Plots and scholarships
- Skill development for financial stability.
The pension scheme for transgenders was announced by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu last month. Andhra Pradesh is the third state of India after Kerala and Odish to approve pension scheme for the transgender community.
