It seems that there is no stopping for Indian weightlifters at Commonwealth games 2018 especially in women category. Punam Yadav from Varanasi who won fifth gold for India at CWG 2018, Australia. She was contesting in 69Kg weight category. This is much better improved performance of Punam as compared to her previous appearance four years back at Glasgow where she got bronze medal. Punam 22 years young girl lifted 95, 98 and 100 in snatch rounds and lifted 118 and 122 in clean and jerk round to make it to gold medal.
The silver medal in the event goes to Sarah Davies of England whereas bronze medal was grabbed by weightlifter Apolonia Vaivai from Fiji. Punam gave a target of 222 to Davies in her final attempt but England lifter could not make her balance and slipped while trying to beat target set by Punam. Thus Punam was declared winner. Final scores of the event was Punam- 222, Davies -217 and Vaivai-216.

Punam Yadav is a perfect example for someone who is demotivated in life due to weak financial conditions and not able to achieve dreams. Born in Varanasi’s Chandmari village in Uttar Pradesh on uly 9, 1995, Punam als had faced very difficult time to reach at the place where she is now. She was financially helped by her sister and grand uncle. She was at once was barred from taking part in junior nationals and asked to appear for a dope test.
She won bronze medal at 2014 Commonwealth Games in Women’s 63 kg events. Then Punam won gold medals (63kg) in both the senior as well as junior women’s categories at the Commonwealth Youth, Junior & Senior Championships in 2015.
