Punjab state government has introduced Land Improvement Schemes Act bill to empower farmers of the state. The bill has been introduced for insertion of new Section 14-A in the current Vidhan Sabha session for enactment thus will straight away benefit the farmers of the Punjab in terms of supply of water along with better infrastructure.
As per the new amendment act it will be legal right of the Soil and Water Conservation Department and farmers to put an underground pipeline for irrigation in others lands under 3 feet by paying a compensation to the land owner.
A district-level committee comprising Deputy Commissioner as chairman and representatives from Revenue, Agriculture, Forests, Public Works and Soil Conservation Departments will be formed which will decide the amount of compensation will be made which will decide the compensation to be paid.
Along with Punjab Land Improvement Schemes Act (Amendment) Bill, 2017, Punjab cabinet chaired by Chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh also gave the nod to the placement of the Amritsar Walled City (Recognition of Usage) Ordinance 2017 before the Vidhan Sabha for enactment.
