Rajasthan government has announced farm-loan waiver of Rs.20,000 crore after a two week protest was made by the farmers of the state. Under the scheme the farmer loans of up to 50,000 will be waived.
Earlier farmers were demanding that the loans up to Rs 49,500 should be waived by the Government. But, the government was not agreeing on this. Then after a talk of three rounds in a single day, both farmers and Government agreed to decision of waive loans up to the amount of Rs. 50,000.
The new announcement has made Rajasthan fifth state to waive loans of the farmers. The four states are who have already done this are:
- Maharashtra,
- Uttar Pradesh
- Punjab
- Karnataka
Along with farmers loan waiving announcement, some other important announcement were made related to farmers which were:
- Assurance was given to farmers by the government that their crops will be purchased at minimum support price (MSP) by the government.
- Government will increase pensions of the farmers from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000.
- State government will remove the ban imposed by it on sale of cattle.
- Swaminathan commission recommendations will be implemented very soon.
