A 1981 Gujarat-cadre Indian Administrative Services officer and revenue secretary Hasmukh Adhia has been appointed as new finance secretary by the government of India. He will take over Ashok Lavasa, who superannuated last month.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved designation of Adhia as the finance secretary and the order in this regard was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training.
Hasmukh Adhia
Hasmukh Adhia is IAS officer from 1981 batch of Gujarat Crade. He was called to Delhi after Narendra Modi-led NDA took charge of the country. He joined as the secretary in the department of financial services. His revenue department tenure has been appreciated for making significant changes to make paying taxes easier.
Hasmukh Adhia is one of the main driving forces behind India’s largest tax regime changer goods and services tax (GST). He is considered as the main reason behind the success of implementation of GST on time on July 1st, 2017. He had done brilliant work in handling trick issues of GST when he was appointed as secretary to the GST Council.
As a new finance secretary, Adhia will be having responsibilities to address the niggles confronting the new tax regime.
