Saudi Arabia has agreed and given green signal to India’s plan of ferry Haj pilgrims through sea route. The announcement was made by Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Monday. An annual Haj agreement regarding the matter was signed between India and Saudi Arabia in Mecca.
The sea route to Haj will be started after the discussion of all the necessary formalities and technicalities so that the Haj yatra through see could be made hassle free.
Indian Union Minister in his statement said that the the reviving of route to Haj through sea will be less expensive as compared to other ways. He added that it will be be a “revolutionary, pro-poor, pilgrim-friendly decision”.
Background: The Haj yatra or practice of ferrying Haj pilgrims between Mumbai and Jeddah from India to Saudi Arabia through waterways was also in operation but was stopped in 1995.
