Five times world champion M C Mary Kom had to satisfy with silver in 69th Strandja Memorial boxing tournament for men and women. Mary Kom was defeated by Bulgaria’s Sevda Asenova in the final. Amit Panghal won his second consecutive international gold at the boxing tournament. Seema Poonia (+81kg) has also had to get satisfied with silver.
Mar Kom played well throughout the tournament, she defeated toughest competitors in the event including local favourite. Even in the final she done well but the decision was in favour of Bulgarian Asenova in the end.
Mary Kom (48 Kg) had won two consecutive gold medals in Asian championships and the India Open respectively but could not succeed to won the third one. On the other hand Seema Poonia (+81kg) also could not stay against sheer power Russia’s Anna Ivanova and thus was defeated in the final.

Indian women boxers finished at total of six medals in the tournament. Out of six medals, two Silver mentioned above and four are bronze medals. Bronze medals winners are Meena Kumari Devi (54kg), L Sarita Devi (60kg), Saweety Boora (75kg) and Bhagyabati Kachari (81kg).
