Government of Telangana is planning to construct or set up Units for Child protection in the state. The District Child Protection Units (DCPU) will be set up in all districts of Telangana. The state has 31 districts. Right now only ten erstwhile districts have DCP Units. The programme is to expand it to rest of 21 districts in Telangana. The decision is taken to implement child rights more strongly.
Women and Children welfare department Secretary M Jagadeeshwar speaking on the occasion said that proposals were already sent to the government for constitution of child protection units and already they were sanctioned and now staff recruitment was underway.
Below are the objectives of District Child Protection Units (DCPU)
- Coordinate and implement child rights
- Prevent child abuse
- Protect children
- To ensure implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act
Further speaking, he said that Child Welfare Committees will also be formed in all the districts.
