Union Education Minister Approved DBT Mid Day Meal Scheme
Union Minister for Education in India Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal has given his approval to the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) under Mid Day Meal scheme. As per the scheme, monetary assistance will be directly provided to the students who are under Mid-Day-Meal scheme of the government.
This DBT mid day meal scheme will benefit around 11.8 crore eligible students. The aim of the new proposal regarding mid day meal DBT is to ensure proper nutrition to the children.
Under this scheme, state governments will get additional funds of Rs 1200 crore from center government. This will cover students from Class 1 to class 6. Around 11.20 lakh government and government aided schools will work under this scheme.
About Mid Day Meal Scheme
Mid-Day-Meal scheme was started by center government in year 1995. School children in primary and upper primary classes are provided free lunch in schools under this scheme. The aim is to reduce malnutrition in the children during their growth period. This scheme is applicable to government, government aided, local body, Education Guarantee Scheme, and alternate innovative education centres, madarsas, Maqtabs supported under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, and National Child Labour Project schools run by the ministry of labour. The scheme works as per National Food Security Act, 2013.
