Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh state government has become first state of India to endorse center’s “Triple Talaq” Draft Bill. According to the bill, giving divorce to wife by saying Talaq word three times is an offence. According to bill if a person uses this controversial Islamic practice to give divorce to his wife then he will be given three years jail punishment with no bail option.
The Triple Talaq bill was approved by Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday night at a state cabinet meeting led by CM Yogi Adityanath. UP state tops in the list of complaints against Triple Talaq. Earlier center had asked the states to give their veiws on this newly formed Triple Talaq draft bill by 10 December, 2017.
What Supreme Courts Said About Triple Talaq?
Earlier Supreme Court had baned this controversial Islamic practice to give divorce in the month of August by saying that it is an unconstitutional way of separating and is against the fundamental rights of women.
Verdict on Triple Talaq in Supreme Court was delivered by a panel of five judges from different major religions that is Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism and Zoroastrianism.
