Uttar Pradesh Government has launched a free household electricity connections to poor residents of Uttar Pradesh to mark the Birth Anniversary of India’s former prime minister Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The start has been made from two villages of Mathura district Lohban and Gausana. These two villages have been made 100 per cent electrified.
The UP government led by Yogi Adityanath has a moto “Prakash hai to vikas hai” under which a target to electrify 16 million by the end of 2018 is set by the govt. The state so far has given 25 lakh household connections under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Saubhagy scheme. The target of Saubhagy scheme is to provide electricity to 4 crore households.
Who can avail Free electricity connections?
The free electricity scheme is for BPL (Below Poverty Line) card holder who have annual income less than Rs. 35,000. These BPL card holders will be provided connection at just Rs. 550 instead of normal charges which are Rs 10,000. They can avail the electricity connection just by paying Rs. 50 in start and rest of the amount can be paid in 10 instalments each of fifty rupees.
