India at Commonwealth Games 2018: Its again female weightlifter from India made country proud as Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu won gold medal in weightlifting for India in 53 Kg category. She won medal with a record breaking performance clean and jerks round. This is India’s second gold medal at CWG 2018 at Gold Coast City, Australia.
Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu CWG 2018 Gold Medal Winning Story
Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu (24 years age) was one of the biggest hope of India to get a gold medal which she proven right. She broke existing commonwealth records as she lifted 84 Kg in snatch category and then lifted 108 in the clean & jerk and finished with an effort of 192kg.
She started snatch by lifting 81 Kg in her first attempt. Then in her second lift she made a record with super lift of 84 kg and moved to next round with a lead of 3 Kg. In Clean and jerk round, Sanjita given record making performances in first two attempts before she loosed her balance in her third attempt. She lifted weights of 104 kg and 108 kg in first and second attempts respectively. Her tough opponent and defending champion, Loa Dika Toua of Papua New Guinea had then to lift 113 kg in her final attempt to beat Sanjita Chanu. But, Dika Toua could not lift which means Sanjita was the gold medallist.
Earlier yesterday another Manipuri girld Mirabai Chanu won gold in the women’s 48 kg and P Gururaja won silver medal in men’s 56Kg category.
Previous History of Sanjita Chanu
Sanjita Chanu is 24-year-old girl from Manipur. She considers N Kunjarani Devi her role model. Her first gold came in 2009 which she won at senior nationals. Then she won bronze medal at Asian Weightlifting Championships in 2011. She also shined at Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2012 where she also brought gold medal for India. She was also winner of gold medal in weightlifting in Glasgow CWG in the 48kg category. After that she switched to 53 Kg category.
