Yaas Cyclone West Bengal
West Bengal Coastline is to face a cyclone Yaas on 26-27 May 2021. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed News about the Cyclone. According to IMD, Cyclonic Storm is very likely to move north-northwestwards from over East Central & adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal. It is likely to get intensify further into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm.
Yaas Storm is expected to be very deadly. It is similar to last year’s Amphan in terms of severeness.
Cyclone Named as Yaas?
Naming of a cyclone depend on it nature. If a cyclone is deadly, then its name is never used in future again. List of names of cyclones is maintained by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).

What is Cyclone
The term Cyclone is derived from Greek word “Cyclos” that means “Coiling of the Snake”Cyclone in simple language is rotation of air around a center point of low atmospheric pressure. It rotates in both clockwise and anticlockwise direction. The direction of cyclone in northern Hemisphere is anti clockwise and clockwise in Southern Hemisphere.
